Privacy

This is a short policy because the site collects very little. It was written to match how the site actually works today, and we will update it if that changes.

What this site does not do

  • It sets no cookies.
  • It has no accounts, no logins and no forms that send us your details.
  • It does not use Google Analytics, Meta pixels or advertising trackers.
  • It does not embed social media feeds.

What happens when you visit

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages to you and keep the service secure. We do not use that information to identify you.

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which guides are useful. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, does not build a profile of you and does not follow you to other sites. It records things like the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your country and the type of device and browser. A small script loads from static.cloudflareinsights.com to do this. We only ever see totals, never individual visitors.

Videos

Pages with a video show a plain placeholder first. Nothing is requested from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, a Google service, which then receives your IP address and your viewing request under Google’s own policies. Links that say “Watch on YouTube” open YouTube in the usual way.

If you email us

If you email us, we use your email address and what you send only to reply and to improve the guides. We do not add you to any list or share your message. We keep it for as long as it is useful to the conversation, and delete it on request.

Guides link to provider, manufacturer and charity websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing the address in the footer. If you are unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
